“Marilyn Monopoly” is a take on the value of celebrity. Marilyn Monroe is still an iconic figure, idolized and then immortalized by many. But there's a commentary here: why is it that the $100 bills that she appears are not new; they're worn and used? Because that was also her life. It began the question: what is celebrity worth?
This piece is a mixture of physical and digital processes. Marilyn’s portrait is done in an engraving style and coloring to match the design of the currency.
Each bill was printed, cut into individual pieces, then hand-folded and further distressed to resemble used money. Each piece was then mounted onto the hardwood surface, and sealed.
This piece measures 72"w x 30"h, mounted on board with a 3" black backing, and comes complete, ready to hang, hand-signed with Certificate of Authenticity.
